Kirsten Dunst Covers ‘Wonderland’

This September, Wonderland’s “Priceless” issue celebrates all the things that money can’t necessarily buy – specifically: talent, style, taste and supreme luxury. Cover stars Kirsten Dunst and Alexander Skarsgård take the lead, talking sex, danger, nudity and apocalypse in light of their starring roles in Lars Von Trier’s epic Melancholia.

The Priceless issue is available in all good newsagents and bookshops from August 26 (next week). Until then enjoy the covers.

Special K: how Kirsten Dunst was born to be different

Kirsten Dunst’s horrified face was one of the defining images of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The actress’s latest film, Melancholia, was a favourite to win the Palme d’Or until its director, Lars von Trier, joked during a press conference that he “understood Hitler”, adding, “Israel is a pain in the ass.”

Dunst, who made a fruitless attempt to stop his ramble, eventually turned to him with a look of dread and disappointment. The film’s celebrity-studded party was cancelled and von Trier was ejected from the festival.

Then, a few days later, Dunst won the best actress award for her extraordinary performance in Melancholia. Shimmering in a silver feathered haute couture Chanel dress, Dunst accepted the trophy from Robert De Niro. “What a week it’s been!” she exclaimed, looking a little stunned.

“It was like watching your friend have a meltdown – they just keep talking,” she says of the director’s comments today. “I was so embarrassed about what [von Trier] was saying. It came from a very dark and twisted sense of humour.”

She smiles ruefully. “Obviously it’s not something that he actually believed. I knew he was trying to be provocative. He felt really embarrassed afterwards because they took away our party and our dinner.”

Elle UK – September 2011 Scans

I finally got around to scanning Kirsten’s feature in Elle UK and have added them to the gallery. It’s such a lovely interview and the pictures are just stunning.

Kirsten Covers September Edition of Elle UK

Kirsten is on the cover of the September edition on Elle UK and I have added previews of both the newstand cover and subscriber cover (thanks thefashionspot) and also a preview from the editorial.

A little piece from the article:

Speaking to Elle magazine about her new partner, musician Jason Boesel she said: “He is not into partying and it works. We have similar schedules: long periods of time off and periods of mad work.”

She added: “When I’ve finished work, I travel to be with him. It’s special.”

The 29-year-old, who won a best actress award at Cannes for her film Melancholia, hit rock bottom after her split with Borrell in 2008.

She said: “We all want the bad guy who doesn’t give you what you want. I did a lot of sitting in my car, listening to sad music, crying over boys.”

Kirsten is currently shooting an upcoming movie adaption of the famous Jack Kerouac novel On the Road alongside Kristen Stewart, Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund and Viggo Mortensen.

Dunst stated: “I know how big it is. Every time I’ve been on the set, I’ve thought, This is On the Road’.

The Silver Linings Playbook Tests Elizabeth Banks and Kirsten Dunst

Director David O. Russell is searching for a leading lady to star opposite Mark Wahlberg in The Silver Linings Playbook. Actresses such as Elizabeth Banks, Kirsten Dunst, Blake Lively, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Andrea Riseborough, and Olivia Wilde are said to be reading for the drama.

The story centers around Mark Wahlberg’s character, Pat Peoples, a man who has been recently released from a mental institution. He goes on a journey of self-discovery to find the “silver linings” in life. The female lead is a recently widowed woman who goes on a sexual binge, and ultimately befriends Pat Peoples.

Testing for the role will start today and run throughout the weekend. Jennifer Lawrence is also rumored to be testing for the role, although that is not confirmed. We reported earlier this month that Angelina Jolie had met with director David O. Russell for this role. It isn’t know if Angelina Jolie is still a contender.

David O. Russell will direct The Silver Linings Playbook from a screenplay he adapted from the novel by Matthew Quick. Production is slated to begin in August.

The Silver Linings Playbook comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Mark Wahlberg. The film is directed by David O. Russell.

Lula Magazine Outtakes

Before I leave on a 2 weeks vacation I have a little special treat for you all. I’ve added 26 outtakes from Kirsten’s Lula Magazine photoshoot last year. These are beyond gorgeous even if they do have a slight tag on them.

Dunst still pals with “Nazi director”

Actress Kirsten Dunst has defended her Melancholia director Lars Von Trier over controversial statements he made at the Cannes Film Festival about Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

The Danish filmmaker stunned reporters during a Cannes press conference last month when he rambled on about his German heritage and declared he could “understand” Hitler – as an awkward Dunst sat next to him.

Von Trier has since apologized for his remarks, but it was not enough for festival organizers; they have banned the filmmaker.

Dunst, who was named the Best Actress at Cannes for her role in the film, has now offered her support to the director, insisting the Dane’s words “came out wrong”.

She says, “He says dumb stuff sometimes but not anything I had ever been offended by. It just came out wrong, that’s not Lars at all.

“He was trying to make people laugh by telling the story of his life but it was not the right audience for it. He doesn’t speak English that often, he’s been in Denmark for a long time. It just didn’t translate well.”

Dunst, who shifted awkwardly in her seat at the press conference as her director made his remarks, admits she was annoyed with him at the time: “I was upset, shocked and angry but, at the end of the day, he is still my friend.”

Interview: Why Kirsten doesn’t want to be perfect

Kirsten Dunst likes the lines around her eyes. She likes her thin lips, too, and is proud of the fact her teeth don’t align like soldiers on parade.

‘I like imperfection,’ the Hollywood star told me, although she understands that Hollywood was built on pillars of perfection.

‘I think it’s difficult to grow up going to the movies where things are so perfect, and that’s the idea of a movie star, too. You know, you see the star up there and a line or a pimple has been digitally removed so you look, well, perfect.’

Kirsten, who has just won the best actress prize at the Cannes Film Festival for her beautifully nuanced performance in Lars von Trier’s Melancholia, continued: ‘People have said a lot of times: “Why don’t you fix your teeth?”

‘For me, the people I respect are like: “Don’t ever fix your teeth!” So, the aesthetic I migrate to is not the mainstream aesthetic.’

Kirsten cited her own mother as someone who has suggested ways in which Kirsten could ‘improve’ herself.

‘My mother’s like: “Your lips are pale, wear some red lipstick!” So when we go out to dinner, I’ll put on the damned red lipstick for her.

‘Mothers look at their daughters and they think they’re the most beautiful. But we’re just who we are.

‘My mum wanted me to fix my teeth, but when I was younger and wore braces I took out the retainer all the time. That’s why they didn’t get straight.
